When you begin your journey with us you are unranked. You still have to wear a White Belt to hold your Gi closed... but you have not earned it yet.
This is the first rank we list as a compliant rank in our structure. It means you are beginning to learn the basics and are still practicing in a cooperative way with your training partner. Attaining this belt means you adequately understand basic Etiquette and Japanese Terminology.
Compliant Rank showing that you are beginning to have an understanding of the basics.
Compliant to Non-Compliant transitional belt. In this belt you will begin to understand the difference between "Dojo Pretty" and real-world application of techniques. You will start to spar with your training partners and give resistance to techniques being performed in order to begin to understand true application of what is being taught.
Non-Compliant Rank. In this rank you will begin learning more difficult intermediate techniques... As well as showing a more refined understanding of the basics and how to apply them in a real confrontation.
Non-Compliant Rank. In this rank you will show your proficiency in the basics and your further understanding of intermediate techniques and how to apply them. You will also be introduced to many advanced techniques and refine your efficiency in real world self-protection.
Brown Belt is the last of the "lower level" ranks in our system. It has three independent ranks in this belt.

Reaching Shodan (1st Rank of Black Belt), is not the end of your journey in our art... It is the beginning! Black Belt means you have mastered the basics and now have all the tools to begin your further understanding of Kyu Shin Ryu. As you progress through the black belt levels of our art, it is required that you further your training by practicing other arts in addition to KSR, as well as continuing to refine and define your understanding of our art and how it applies to your life.
